Vacancy - Legal Officer/Employment Solicitor
We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven, public spirited, commercially astute lawyer to join our team to deliver bespoke early stage advice to whistleblowers, with the aim to stop harm and put things right. The second part of the role will be providing consultancy and training to public and private sector organisations – including FTSE100 and SMEs - on best practice whistleblowing arrangements. This role is ideal for a lawyer looking for flexible working for a unique advice centre, with an interest in utilising their legal acumen to inform the important work we do.

Salary: £35,000 per annum, for the right candidate we would consider a four-day week or term time only hours for the same rate.

Public Concern at Work (PCaW) is the leading whistleblowing charity with 25 years’ subject matter expertise. We are unique in that we are the only free, confidential legal advice line for whistleblowers and were instrumental in the creation of the Public Interest Disclosure Act.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven and public spirited lawyer to join our team to deliver bespoke early stage advice on how best to raise a concern in line with legal protection, with the aim to stop harm and put things right. This role is ideal for a commercially astute lawyer, with an interest in utilising their legal acumen to inform the important work we do, the second part of the role will be providing consultancy and training to public and private sector organisations – including FTSE100 and SME’s - on best practice whistleblowing arrangements. The Legal Officer role will entail:
• Utilising your legal expertise and divergent thinking skills in order to identify unique solutions and support whistleblowers to navigate the system and raise their concern
• Ability to be empathetic and supportive as well as professionally objective
• Supervision of trainees, paralegals and volunteers to ensure consistently high standards of client care
• Attentive to current legal affairs, whistleblowing cases and commercial market trends
• Providing input to maintain the continual development and quality improvement of advice line services
• Delivery of training on best practice whistleblowing arrangements and the law, including how to handle concerns effectively and support staff
• Delivery of high level consultancy to business clients that span the public and private sector to achieve best practice arrangements
You will work within a small, collegiate and collaborative team that encourages case discussion to ensure continual learning and high awareness of the diverse issues emerging in the advice line and via the business support work. You will report to the Chief Executive and work closely with the Head of Advice and Advocacy, the Development Director and our senior lawyers to fulfil the charities’ objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a background in employment law, public law or corporate governance and have at least three years or more post qualification experience.
